Marathon Day 26, Sunday 10th April - Truro, Boscawen Park

Oh Oh! It's Saturday night again and it appears that wherever you are, the local rabble are determined to put in an appearance.  On this occasion it took place about 12.30am in the car park. In the event it was harmless just noisy and a bit scary involving cars racing around the car park quite close to us!
Woke up early, but to a glorious morning!
The Cathedral from the RV . . . . . .
. . . . and sunrise, 1-1/2 hrs later

So early start to the blog, with the sound of pre-race Malaysia Grand Prix from the TV in the background. Oh joy!"!!
Andy's looking good this morning - a few aches and pains but he's currently having a massage to relieve them.

Andy was sent on his way with a Bugle fanfare this morning, courtesy of the local Army Cadet Force - well done lads!
A welcome from the Mayor

Quite a send off!

Within a very short time of starting, it became obvious that Andy was suffering.  His left shin was extremely sore and inflamed, causing him great  distress.  Sophie did everything she could to make him more comfortable but the main thing he needs is rest! But Andy being Andy, he soldiered on accepting that today was going to be a walking marathon (and about time too).

I walked the next 7 miles with him, chatting about everything and nothing. We collected Josh, a young man who had already completed a 10k run this morning who was extremely interested in what Andy had to say. Andy even took the time to demonstrate to Josh how he could improve his core strength and overall performance.
So, Josh, this is the plank . . . . .

18.3 miles down and Sophie's walking with him now. Gonna be a long one today but at least the scenery is beautiful.

Disaster - Andy is really struggling. The injury to his left shin is getting worse and he is literally hobbling! How he keeps going is beyond me but that is the man!!!
He finished in 8hrs 57mins, disheartened and very pleased that it was over.

He looks quite happy . . . . .

. . . . . . but check out his "smile"!

He and Sophie decided to travel the 150+ miles to Wells in the RV - that way, Sophie could tend to his injury and he could at least get his feet up!
We arrived about 9.30pm only to discover that our planned overnight parking place wasn't really suitable. So a quick visit to the local police station and we were given permission to spend the night in the entrance to a derelict building just across the road.

So, with everything hanging in the balance, we wait until tomorrow . . . . . .
