Marathon Day 27, April 11th - Wells, Recreation Ground

Woke up to a grey day with grey thoughts!

Just heard from Caz & Sophie and whilst news could be better, Andy seems determined to soldier on. He's due here in a few minutes and we'll find out then.

The RV is staying where it is today due to access difficulties at the Marathon  venue. Support for Andy will be provided from the two other support vehicles.  So, we just wait . . . . . . . . . !

Well - he's had his somewhat painful pre-race treatment and has just set off for the start - I'm just sorting out in the RV and will walk down there.

If resolve, determination and guts count for anything then  Andy will get through today  and complete his 27th Marathon. His courage and single mindedness should serve as a lesson to all of us!  Go for it Andy!!

Pose for a photo and take a rest, Andy!

Sophie walked the first stint with Andy and when I ventured to the park to take over "escort duties" he didn't appear to be struggling too much - although his limp, which he's had from today's start seemed to be a bit worse.  About 9 miles in, however, things started to go downhill fast and the pace dropped dramatically.  Despite Sophie's regular ministrations and exhaustive treatments, his condition remained pretty much the same throughout the day with surely only his resolve, commitment and determination keeping him going. Nikki, bless her, walked with him for the last 17 miles and he eventually crossed the finish line 10hrs, 58mins 57secs after he started!!  Truly a marathon!!
How tired is that man!

Is that a smile or a grimace!

Not much to pack up because some little b***ards had pinched our ABF  flags from the park earlier in the day! Not very charitable eh! . . . . . . . Wish they'd taken the bases as well 'coz they're bloody heavy!

A short but tiring journey to Bath had us parked up for the night with Andy and the rest of Team66 safely ensconced in a nearby hotel.

Every good intention of catching up on admin and blogs went out of the window once I put the TV on and fell asleep!! - Just like being at home. lol.

Good afternoon young man,
We have all had a very busy and tiring day today.  Uncle Andy hasn't been very well but he's getting better now.
I know that you are being a good boy for mummy and that makes me very happy. How lucky am I to have such a lovely family!
Today we are at number 27  on your Map and you will see that we are starting to come back up the country and getting closer to home.
Tomorrow we are in Bristol, that's even closer and the next day I will be back at home with you ready for our holiday!
Love you to bits
Daddy
