Marathon day 59, Friday 13th May - Aberdeen, The Esplanade

A cracking night’s sleep in the hotel with the luxury of a hot shower in the morning without having to go to a different building for it!
Early cooked breakfast as well - 6.30am. Barry collected us from the hotel and whisked us away to the RV which we then relocated to our start position for today’s run.

We set up the flags, timer and ABF tent on a breezy promenade and then simply wait for the Lord Provost and press representatives to arrive.
Well we waited and waited . . . . . . until  Barry finally realised that perhaps they were waiting for us outside the Ballroom, about  ½ mile further along the Esplanade.  Guess what – he was right and we were soon united as one group.

A very warm welcome from the Lord Provost

BBC & ITCV Scottish TV were present with reporters and photographers from the local press so Andy had quite a busy time before the start which in the event had to be delayed slightly to allow all of the interviews and filming to be completed – what it is to be famous, eh!!

Then he was off once more, Billy No Mates again I’m afraid but he was eventually to be  to be joined by  Sophie for the latter part of the run.
The start of another long run!!

A visit to the Blogspot site revealed the site down for maintenance which was to be the case for most of the day so no progress on blog updating then.

Major decision – what’s on the menu for dinner tonight?  Raymondo decided – Salmon en Croute, something quick and simple to cook once it is prepared!
So a quick shopping expedition and let the preparation begin . . . . .

5 Salmons soon prepared in a roasting tin and in the fridge to rest pending cooking when we arrive at our evening stop. (Sophie had her own veggie dinner for this evening!)

Andy and Sophie completed the marathon in 6hrs 32mins with a wonderful sprint finish, much to Sophie’s chagrin but to the delight of the BBC cameraman.  Sophie muttered something about him paying for it later during the evening treatment session!
 Crossing the line together

We packed up on an extremely windy Esplanade and set out on our journey to Dundee, 60 miles distant.

We had determined that the RV would be stationed at Camperdown Country Park tonight with Barry and me  in residence whilst the rest of the team would be bivouacked at RAF Leuchars, some 12 miles distant.
Dinner was planned for 8pm but little did I know that it was to be Salmon en Croute avec sauce “ Coca Cola”, courtesy of Sophie who had placed an open can of (full fat) Coca Cola on the shelf above the roasting tin, which can subsequently fell off and into the tin! AAAARRGGHH!  The air was blue!!!  . . . . . . . and my disaster recovery procedure . . . . .  wipe off excess with kitchen towel, liberally dust with flour and put back in fridge to rest for a wee while longer!!!

Dinner actually proved a success with only a slight taste of the offending liquor!

Andy, Sopie, Jim & Nikki left for the Barracks soon after dinner and once again, peace descended on the Challenge66  Battle Bus.

A check on Blogspot revealed the site up and running but unfortunately all of my recovery efforts made yesterday had disappeared. A good job that I had backed them up in Word so it was a relatively simple process to reinstate them!

A fitting end to the day.

Benji's Blog

How much trouble am I in!!
I haven't done a Benji Blog for ages so now is the time to put this right.

Champ and Shine are missing you Benji.  They went onto the beach today for a paddle but it was too cold so they just sat on the rocks in the sunshine.
We think it is a bit cold for a paddle

It's nice just sitting in the sunshine

I think that your teddy bears will be very pleased to get back home with you, and Baxter, of course. I bet they give you lots of snuggles - you will have
to make lots of room in your bed.
I think that it will be nice to give you lots of snuggles as well. I'll soon be home with you and mummy and then we'll spend lots of time together.
Thank you for being a good boy for mummy and daddy.
Lots of love and kisses.

Daddy
